A generational passion for trees

David Kennaugh of Castletown has gardening in his blood dating back four generations.  He has been a prolific tree planter for years and recently made a significant contribution by planting trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

David chose The Nunnery as one of the sites to plant two of his trees. A monkey puzzle tree which was grown from a seed, taking nine months just to germinate and an oak tree.  Both these trees were nurtured for years in pots, and it was important for David to choose the right landed estate for his trees.

David reflected saying, “With The Nunnery being a place of happy childhood memories, I thought it was a fitting start to planting on a landed estate, the two trees I had hand reared. I hope to continue planting further trees and finally one at Government House, with a handover of information on all the trees to the Governor.”

The Nunnery is grateful and privileged to have two special trees, both hand-reared by David Kennaugh, as part of its own tree planting initiative for future island generations’ enjoyment.
